The process consists in: - positioning a mould (5) for the product to be produced by closing it at bottom level on a lower sole plate (41), - progressively feeding the mould (5) with material through its upper opening, for example with the aid of a means for conveying moulding material (9), and performing a simultaneous ramming or compacting of the material in the mould, - as soon as the mould is filled with material, interrupting the feeding as well as the ramming or compacting, and positioning an upper plate on the mould so as to form the upper part of the mould, - removing this plate and opening the mould, - and discharging the moulded product resting with its lower sole plate (41) on an exit conveying track (11). <IMAGE>
