An intermediate plate (4) with clamping bolts (5) for securing a workpiece (3) for machinery is fastened by conventional bolts to the slides of a machine tool cable. The intermediate plate has precision holes (36) for the stems (38) of the clamping bolts spaced from a measuring hole. Each precision hole is stepped, with a tapped part (37) for the threaded botl and (19). Above the stem is a flange (18), supporting the clamping elements. They include a tapered top part (12), carrying an expanding collar (8) with a correspondingly, sloping, internal surface to fit into a hole (13) in the workpiece. When the collar is forced downwards by a bolt (9) with a shouldered stem, which is screwed into a tapped hole in the clamping bolt, the collar is expanded inside the hole in the workpiece.
