A load supporting stand 11 comprises a plurality of legs 12, 13, 14, 15 and a base 25 for receiving the lower ends of these legs, the base 25 including a surface 36 on which the lower ends of the legs rest and an upstanding flange 37 for retaining the lower enda of the legs in position to prevent lateral outward movement of the legs. The legs are angled inwardly and upwardly from base 25 to join at an apex at which is located a support for a housing 17 for an extensible post 19 a lever 21 being mounted on the housing 17 actuable to lock the extensible post 19 in a selected position in the housing 17. The lever 21 and extensible post 19 function as a pawl and ratchet as described with reference to Fig. 5 (not shown) The extensible post 19 has a load supporting saddle 26 and an aperture 23 for receiving a load support tube 24. The base 25 includes spaced shoulders 40 at the corners of the rectangle which shoulders project away from the base in the opposite direction to the legs, and shoulders 40 have a smooth bottom surface and bevelled edges to enable the stand 11 to bear firmly on a floor surface even when the stand 11 is non-centrally loaded.</p> |
