The road surface joint is for the expansion joint of a bridge etc., having supporting beams (9) extending for its entire width, and along which strips (4), extending across the road, slide via feet (7) enclosing the beams. Each foot has an elastic cushion (16) acting against the beam underside so as to pre-load it in the vertical direction, also a bearing (8) working against the top of the beam. This bearing is of the plain type, while before and after the cushion when seen in the lengthwise direction on the underside there are other rigid bearing portions (17,18) in the foot. These come to bear against the beam only when the strip is subjected to a load in the horizontal direction.
