The echoes are formed by a multi-directional primary radiation, such as ultrasound, aimed at the object. The object image display takes place by time related, reception echo signals on each directional axis. The echoes of the multidirectional primary radiation are so superimposed to form a summation image that spatial points receive primary radiation echoes of different amplitude. - Alternately spatial or timewise derivation, exceeding a preset value, are reproduced as image elements. The echo amplitude, dependent on the penetration depth, provides a compensation for received echoes. Pref. the spatial directions of the primary radiation are mutually offset by 180 deg.
