PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, dyeing assistant, etc., in high selectivity, conversion and yield by reacting an aniline compound with an olefin in liquid phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst consisting of a cation-exchanged laminar compound. CONSTITUTION:The subject compound can be produced in high selectivity on an industrial scale at a low cost by reacting an aniline compound with an olefin in liquid phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst consisting of a laminar compound exchanged with a cation, e.g. >=2-valent metallic ion selected from Al, Ca, Fe, Ni, Cu, Ga, In, Se, La, Zr and/or Ti, e.g. montmorillonite, bentonite, hectorite, taeniolite, saponite, vermiculite and/or tetrasilicic mica or a material produced by crosslinking the above laminar compound with a metal oxide such as alumina, zirconia, iron oxide or titanium oxide. |
