The belt drive tensioner incorporates a spring (17)-loaded tension roller (1). A damping member (10) consists of a piston rod (14) and securing eyelets (8) and is attached by the latter to a support (5). A tensioning lever is pivoted on the support and is moved by a handle. The tension spring is integrated in the damping member, with the piston rod divided into two sections (24,25), joined by a link (23). One piston rod section (24) is pivoted by an eyelet (27) onto the support and forms the tensioning lever. The securing eyelet has a sleeve (28) for inserting a grip bar (30) as handle.
