PURPOSE:To shorten a transfer time and an update processing time and to realize an efficient document control mechanism by transferring a document between a host computer and a WS while limiting the transferred document to only a necessary page and only an updated part. CONSTITUTION:The user of the work station WS specifies from which page to which page when specifying a request to take the document out of the host computer with a document name from a document transmitter and receiver 5. The document access part 2 of the host computer retrieves a page index part J where the specified pages are stored and transfers the document of a document main body K corresponding to the part, and the page index part J and document name index part I to the WS through a host transfer device 3. Namely, the document is transferred while limited to the necessary page and only the updated part. Consequently, the document transfer time and storage time are shortened and the total throughput is improved.
