The bag has two rectangular sides (18) joined along their side edges (16, 16') by weld-seams and along their lower edges by a base which folds out during filling. The method of filling consists of removing the bag from a magazine and inserting a bar between the sides (18) between the non-welded top edges (14) of the sides (18). The sides (18) are then welded along one of the bar's lengthwise edges to form a pourer spout (10). The bar is then removed. The sides (18) near the un-welded top edges (14) are then welded. The bag is then filled through the unwelded part of the top bag edge (14) directly before or after filling. ADVANTAGE - The upright bag is filled and closed and the contents easily poured out of it.
