NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R<1> is group of formula II or III (R<3> is lower alkyl), benzthiazol-5-yl)-3-oxo-perhydro-isoindole. EXAMPLE:1-Hydroxy-2-(3-tert. butyl-isooxazol-5-yl)-3-oxo-perhydro-isoindole. USE:A herbicide. Useful as a herbicide for paddy rice and plowland crops. PREPARATION:A cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride or 3,4,5,6- tetrahydrophthalic acid anhydride of formula IV is reacted with an amino compound of formula: R<1>NH2 to prepare a compound of formula V, which is reduced with a reducing agent (e.g. sodium borohydride) in a solvent such as methanol at 0 deg.C to room temperature to provide the compound of formula I. |
