The power steering (1) has a steering column (2), connected to a steering wheel, and a device to convert a rotary movement into a longitudinal movement. There is a control valve (7) for a working cylinder, which generates the hydraulic power. The valve has a slide (8), actuated by the longitudinal movement, and coupled to the converter device. The converter device, and a centring device, are combined to form a single unit (27), which causes a longitudinal variation, when a torque is applied. When the load is removed, the unit elastically returns to its original position. The unit is located between the valve slide and a drive pinion (23). USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple, low-friction power steering mechanism for vehicle, without hysteresis.
