摘要 In prepn. of open-pore carrier bodies by (a) mixing granular material with hydrophilic surface and grain size 0.05-2 mm with a 0.1-20% aq. salt soln. to form a moist, mouldable compsn., (b) shaping the compsn. to carrier bodies during or after mixing, and (c) drying and sintering the bodies so that salt bridges form in the bodies at the points of contact of the single grains, (i) the salt is such that the salt bridges are not built into the matrix of the bodies during sintering but can be washed out of the bodies after sintering, (ii) the pores are formed by the intergrain vols. in the bodies, and (iii) the pore vol. of the bodies is determined by the bulk density of the granular material. USE/ADVANTAGE - The bodies are used for the fixing or immobilisation of catalysts, indicators or biomass, pref. by adsorption, or the immobilisation of enzymes, microorganisms or cell cultures (claimed). Cheap, abrasion-resistant, mechanically stable carriers can be made on the large scale. The pore dia. can be widely varied. There are no problems with disposal of waste prods
