A device for the expansion of a liquefied gas is described, e.g. for cooling a freezer space. By means of a liquefied gas pipe 3, the liquefied gas is conducted to a flow splitter 5 which divides the liquefied gas flow into two branch pipes 6, 7. One branch pipe 6 ends in a gas pressure accumulator 8 while the other branch pipe 7 has expansion bores 9 for expansion of the liquefied gas. The gas pressure accumulator 8 ensures that, even after the liquefied gas supply has been switched off, the liquefied gas in the branch pipe 7 is kept at a pressure above the triple point of the liquefied gas. In this manner, in particular in the case of use of carbon dioxide as liquefied gas, blocking of the branch pipe 7 by frozen carbon dioxide ice is avoided.

|
