PURPOSE:To obtain 1-2C oxygen-containing compounds composed mainly of ethanol, in high selectivity, by contacting gas containing CO or CO2 and H2 with a catalyst comprising Rh, Re etc., zirconium oxide etc., and silica. CONSTITUTION:1-2C oxygen-containing compounds composed mainly of ethanol, are obtained by contacting gas containing CO and/or CO2 and H2 with a catalyst which comprises (A) Rh, (B) Re, Ta or Nb, (C) zirconium oxide and/or a titanium oxide, and (D) silica. The weight ratios of the catalytic components are as follows: A:B is 10:1-1:10, C:D is 10:1-1:10, and A and B are 0.1-10% of the total weight of the catalyst. The catalyst is prepared as follows: Silica is impregnated with a solution of a Zr compound etc. thermally decomposed, and then impregnated with a solution of a compound of A and B. |
