1,224,693. Polymerizing vinyl chloride. WACKER-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 26 March, 1969 [2 April, 1968], No. 15865/69. Heading C3P. In the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride at 30-80‹ C. the total quantity of monomer(s) is dispersed in water before the protective colloid or any other dispersant and before polymerization is commenced. Smaller amounts of dispersant than usual are needed. In the examples vinyl chloride homopolymers and vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymers are produced. Trichloroethylene may be present and cellulose derivatives and/or polyvinyl alcohol, optionally with sodium lauryl sulphate, are used as dispersants.
