PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of seizure by using metal-impregnated carbon, prepared such that pores in a carbon base material are pressure- impregnated with a molten antimony alloy, as packings arranged on the outer peripheral surface of a main shaft. CONSTITUTION:A feed port for pressure water is formed in the intermediate part of each of the slide surface of packings 32a-32c making contact with the surface of a rotary shaft 6, and the inner peripheral edge on the high pressure side of the slide surface is notched approximately at right angles throughout an overall length to form a notch part through which pressure water is introducible. The packings 32a-32c are formed of metal-impregnated carbon prepared such that pores in a carbon base material are pressure-impregnated with a molten antimony alloy. Since the metal-impregnated carbon has high strength and excellent thermal conductivity, heat generated owing to slide between the main shaft 6 and the packings 32a-32c can be rapidly diffused to prevent the generation of heat. This constitution prevents the occurrence of seizure. |
