Motor vehicle headlamp using a discharge lamp (30), the harmful ultraviolet rays being removed from the light beam. The discharge lamp (30) is composed of a cap (31), a pair of long and short conducting supports (32a, 32b), a pair of conducting wires and front and rear metal supports (40a, 40b) welded so as to support the discharge bulb (34). The front end of the long conducting support (32a) ends at a position substantially corresponding to a front end edge of the front part of the discharge bulb (34). A front end part (50a) of the glass (lens) for protection against ultraviolet light (50) is bevelled so as not to interfere with the light reflected from a circumferential edge part (22a) of the reflector (22), situated around the orifice (23) for insertion of the lamp.
