PURPOSE:To amplify an optical signal in a state where it is a light beam by constituting an optical repeater of a non-linear optical material and a means for supplying a pump light beam. CONSTITUTION:A signal light beam transmitted through an optical fiber 3 is condensed by a lens 8, etc., and made incident on the non-linear polarization in the non-linear optical material with two pumps light beams, consequently, a phase conjugate wave on which the signal light beam is put is generated on a transmission side. By adjusting the intensity, the incident angle, the polarization of the pump light beam, the phase conjugate wave on which the signal light is put is amplified. Then, it is condensed by the lens 8, etc., and inputted in the next optical fiber 3. Namely, since phase conjugate by the use of the non-linear optical material or two light waves coupling is used, the optical signal from the optical fiber is amplified and transmitted in the state where it is the light beam in the non-linear optical material. The amplification of the signal is performed with a simple device and with low noise, and the optical repeater is miniaturized and an economical condition is improved. |
