PURPOSE:To obtain a graphite block having high thermal conductivity and electric conductivity and excellent mechanical strength by folding a long film and press-calcining a long film in a folded state. CONSTITUTION:A graphite block 3 is obtained by supplying a long polymer film 1 in a folded state in a crucible and press-calcining, or laminating plural polymer films having wrinkles or folds and press-calcining. Or, instead of the above method, polymer films 4 cut into long sheets or fibers are supplied in a crucible 5 in a manner that the films 4 are uniaxially oriented, and calcined under pressure to obtain a graphite block 6. The graphite block thus obtd. consists of a folded film while the laminar structure of (001) plane of the graphite crystal is maintained, with the folding in one plate. Thereby, the block has a linear structure in one axial direction. |
