The amplifier has a driver stage (2) with current source transistors (13,14) coupled via a current limiting circuit (49...54) to the limiting transistors (27,28) and the power transistors (29,30) of the power stage. The current source transistors (13,14) are also coupled to a difference regulating amplifier (3) via an amplification control (45). Pref. the current limiting circuit (49...54) uses ohmic resistors (49,50) for providing a limited voltage drop. Diodes (51,52) which are biassed to prevent the transistors (27..30) of the power stage operating in current opposition are also provieded.
