At least one sensing photo-element (P3) of the position measurement arrangement has at least one transition time element (23,33) connected after it. The first transition time element (23) contains an amplifier (V) and may have a further transition time element (33) connected after it. The transition time elements are in the form of low pass filters with RC networks. Measurement divisions are detected photoelectrically as the detector is moved relative to them and whilst being illuminated. The illuminating light is modulated. The received modulated light is converted into an electrical signal for evaluation.
