Handling equipment for positioning and alignment of carbon anode blocks in pairs for connection by anode rods as double anodes, comprising an alignment station with lifting frame equipped with gripper arms and centring elements for the nipple holes. The alignment station is integrated in a roller conveyor system for handling anode blocks. The lifting frame comprises a freely suspended bottom beam with centring element and two pivoted gripper arms with actuating cylinder and top beam with guide rods and lifting cylinder. An elevating section of roller track below the lifting frame accommodates the difference in level between transport pallet return track and roller track to the anode rod assembly station. Anode blocks are conveyed side-by-side on the offset inlet track and transferred to the alignment station by elevating rotary transfer fork. Pairs of anode blocks are conveyed on rectangular frame pallets with guide bars on the underside engaging the track rollers. ADVANTAGE - Equipment provides improved means of assembling pairs of anode blocks as double anodes.
