The mechanism comprises two parallel, elongate roller supports, forming a L-shaped frame, with a crossbar carrying a motor and battery casing. The motor drives a telescopic lifting colum, which is connected to arms with seat loops, or straps, by a column safety device. The device encloses the column and can move at right angles to it, but without twisting. The column (11) merges via a support collar (27) with flat, upwards support surfaces (28) into a fitting mandrel (25) for a rectangular tube, forming safety fitting hub (17). The opposite end faces (19, 20) of the hub can be set down selectively on the collar surfaces, while the sides (22, 23) of the hub have arms (14) secured directly, or via a strut (15).
