The gear has a control member to which are connected mechanical or hydraulic transmission pieces. A torque sensor (2) produces hydraulic pressure dependent on torque, and has a pressure-inlet exerting a pressure medium on it. The torque sensor (2) has an additional second pressure inlet (A, B). Both pressure inlets (A, B) build up pressure which is dependent on torque and separate from each other for thrust and pull. The torque sensor (2) in the two pressure-pipes (4, 5) has a pressure-restricting valve (6A, 6B) between the torque sensor (2) and the pressure medium source (8, 9). The continuously adjustable gear avoids excessively high tension, and is quickly regulated using the torque as a regulating quantity.
