The pump device generates compressed air, and is for use with a vehicle wheel having one or more pneumatic tyres. A first pump element (7) forms a pump chamber (8), the volume of which is changed by the relative movement of a second pump element (14). The chamber is connected via a pressure conduit (11) to a tyre. To produce a relative movement between the pump elements, one of these, e.g. a cylinder, is connected to a wheel or a hub, while the second one, e.g. a piston, is in drive connection with a part (1), which does not turn with wheel of hub. ADVANTAGE - Raises tyre pressure automatically when required.
