The screw cap is for a vessel having an annular face on the end of the spout, working against a seal in the cap. The latter has a screwed skirt working with the spout thread, and comprises a screwed ring of plastics and a flat cover with a sealing insert, secured to the ring above the threaded portion and of sheet metal. The cover (20) has an outer annular portion (21) bent downwards and shaped (12) so as to engage in a mating portion (60) of the ring (10). It can have a peripheral rib (22) on the outside engaging in the mating portion, while there is a centring portion (Z1) below for the ring.
