The invention concerns a device designed to enable a catalytic converter (9) to be used with a two-stroke engine. A silencer (5) fitted with an outlet pipe (14) and in which the exhaust gases are silenced, as well as cooled by a heat exchanger, is connected to the engine exhaust outlet (4). The catalytic converter (9) is located in the outlet pipe of the silencer (5), and the silencer (5) is by-passed by a line (7) leading from the engine exhaust outlet (4) to the catalytic converter (9).
