A cartridge-actuated fastener driving tool comprises a barrel 18 movable relative to a housing 2 between breech open and breech closed positions, the barrel including a cartridge chamber 22, having a counterbore 118 adapted to receive the rim 29 of a cartridge, and a tapered groove 116, and a resilient cartridge extractor 106 a portion of which is arranged to extend into the groove when the barrel is moved to its breech closed position. The extractor is attached at one end to a cocking rod 84 so that during movement of the barrel to its breech closed position the extractor's free end 107, which is resiliently movable both in a direction radially and axially of the barrel axis, is cammed to ride over cartridge rim 29 simultaneously with firing pin 66 being cocked. After firing by actuation of trigger 98, the barrel is moved towards its breech open position and the spent cartridge is ejected by "a snapaction" of the extractor. |
