1276595 Reverse osmosis membranes CONSIGLIO NAZIONALE DELLE RICERCHE and MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 8 July 1970 [8 July 1969] 33045/70 Heading B1X [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] Reverse osmosis membranes are made from polymeric materials having repeating units of the general formula: R' and R" are trans to each other and represent the same or different atoms or groups which may be hydrogen or halogen atoms or alkyl (preferably methyl or ethyl), cycloalkyl or aryl groups, n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 8 and R is an alkyl (preferably methyl or ethyl), cycloalkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy, arylalkoxy, alkoxyaryl or halogen substituents. If n is greater than 1, the substituents R may be the same or different. The membrane may be coupled to a porous support, preferably of the same material. When used in a standard reverse osmosis cell, saline percentage rejections of over 99% may be obtained. |
