A disposable sampling cartridge (10,70) for use with a blood sample analyzer (110) includes a blood reservoir (22,216) communicating with a hypodermic needle (50,206), a waste collection chamber (32,220) adapted to receive waste fluids from the blood sample analyzer, and a plurality of ampules (40,256) each containing an analyzing fluid (130) adapted for use by the blood sample analyzer. Each of the ampules contain a piston (42), and the analyzing fluids in the ampules are expelled by forcing an actuating rod (142) through a frangible wall (132,134) of the ampule to displace the piston. In one embodiment, the analyzing fluids are withdrawn through a conduit (140) in the actuating rod (142) while the blood and spent analyzing fluids flow through the blood reservoir port (20) on which the hypodermic needle is mounted. In another embodiment the analyzing fluids from the ampules (256) flow through a common outlet port (214) which selectively communicates with the blood reservoir (216) by a valve arrangement (202,204,244). <IMAGE> |
