A door closer, adapted to be accommodated in recesses in doors and/or door frames and comprising a tubular housing 6 containing a closer spring 15 which acts through a cylinder 4 moving on a stationary piston 5 of a hydraulic or pneumatic damping arrangement to close the door at a regulated speed, is characterized in that the piston is secured to an axial piston rod 2 and inside the tubular housing there is a rotatable element (end piece 3 and sleeve 11) with a screw-thread connection to the piston rod, the said rotatable element being accessible from the exterior of the housing (via holes 10) so that it can be rotated for adjusting the position of the piston rod and piston in the axial direction.
