Optical resolution of (+)-1-methyl-3-phenylpropyl amine (II) comprises using an optically active 2-phenyl propionic acid deriv. of formula (I), n is 0-3, R1 is H. Cpds. of formula (I) and their salts, in which n is 2 or 3 and R1 is H or 1-3C alkyl are new. (CH3)n is 2,4-, 2,5- dimethyl or 2,4,6-trimethyl.
