PURPOSE:To obtain a polyphenylene ether resin film or fiber free from the problems of thermal deterioration, poor dispersion of additives, etc., by mixing a polyphenylene ether resin with a solvent at a specified temperature, molding the solution into a sheet, a film or a fiber and removing the solvent from the molding. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. polyphenylene ether resin (A) which is a powder of a particle diameter of 0.3 mm or below and has a number-average molecular weight of 7000-50000 is premixed with 5-150 pts.wt. solvent (B) and optionally 10-150 pts.wt. filler or reinforcement (C) which is preferably surface-treated or used together with a surface treatment and is selected from among glass, synthetic or fluoro mica, a fluorocarbon resin, boron nitride and a quartz powder at a temperature equal to or lower than the melting point or initial melting temperature of component A. The obtained mixture is kept at this temperature for 10min or longer and kneaded to obtain a mixture. This mixture is molded into a sheet, a film or a fiber, and component B is removed from the molding. |
