The present invention relates to processes for the production of exo-methylene compounds of the formula: wherein R<1> and R<3> each is an amino-protecting group, and R<2> is hydrogen or a lower alkyl, which is characterized by methylenation of ketones of the formula: wherein R<1>, R<2>, and R<3> are the same as defined above. The process is safe because no unusual and harmful organometallic reagent such as N-phenylselenophthalimide has to be used, and convenient for commercial mass production.
