<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the size and weight of the subject apparatus by controlling the temperature of a metal hydride filled in a deformable closed vessel and utilizing the volume change of the closed vessel accompanying to the temperature variation in the metal hydride. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen-occluding metal hydride 2 consisting of hydride of at least Ti, Mn, Zr, Cr and Cu is filled in a deformable closed vessel 1 made of a metallic foil, a laminated film of metallic foil and plastic film or a metal- clad film. A heating and cooling device 3 connected to lead wires 4 for heating and cooling is placed in contact with the metal hydride 2 and the vessel 1 is filled with hydrogen gas and, as necessary, an inert gas in an amount to get a pressure of <=1atm at the metal hydride temperature of <=45 deg.C and a pressure of >=1.2atm at >=50 deg.C. The metal hydride 2 is heated with the heating and cooling device 3 to a temperature corresponding to the hydrogen dissociation pressure of >=1atm to release hydrogen gas from the metal hydride 2. The vessel 1 is expanded by this process to press the outer environment surrounding the vessel 1. Thereafter, the metal hydride 2 is cooled to release the pressing action by occluding hydrogen gas to the metal hydride 2.</p> |
