A fire retardant polyolefin resin composition comprises 100 wt. pts. of base polymer (1), 0.01-5.0 wt. pts. of high temperature antioxidant (2), 1-30 wt. pts. of red phosphorus (3), 1- 30 wt. pts. of melamine (4) and 10-150 wt. pts. of metal hydrate (5). The polymer (1) is low density polyethylen having 0.875-0.935 density or its mixture. The mixture is selected from polyethylene, ethylene olefin copolymer, ethylene vinylacetate copolymer or ethylene ethylacrylate copolymer. The resin composion has a good mechanical property and moldability, and is used for coating electric wires.
