A belt cleaner for a belt conveyor comprising a vertical. blade member having at its upper end a scraper blade to be pressed against the lower surface of the belt at the starting end of a return path of travel of the belt, means for holding the blade member upwardly and downwardly movably, and means for applying pressure to the blade member held by the holding means. The pressure applying means has a hollow elastic body, and means for supplying a pressure fluid to the interior of the elastic body under variable pressure.
