Four (1,2,3,4) motor/generators are series-coupled (1,2 and 3,4) in pairs. In series with each motor/generator pair are magnetising fields (5,6 and 7,8) which at opposite ends are coupled together at a specific point (9). Parallel over the fields are positioned shunt resistances (14,15) with the aid of which the degree of magnetisation in the motor fields can be increased or reduced. At the specific point the two motor/generator pairs are coupled to a common ballast resistance which is adjustable (10). In series with this ballast resistance is a current limit relay (12). By the current limit relay being connected at its other end to the first motors in each pair (1,3), two current circuits are formed. - The current limit relay is so coupled that it activates an automatic control (13) which affects the adjustment of the shunt and ballast resistances (14,15; 10). The control also activates the comprsses air cylinders operating the mechanical brakes of the vehicle. |
