[Also in Divisions B5, B6 and C3] A tape or ribbon for tying, banding, strapping or decorative purposes comprises a uniaxially orientated foamed olefin polymer, preferably having a density not less than 0.4g/cc, the direction of orientation being along the length of the tape or ribbon. It is stated that the tape or ribbon may exhibit a lustrous pearlescent finish and be suitable to receive print after subjection to a high-frequency discharge. Specific polymers mentioned are polyethylene, polypropylene, and their copolymers. Additives mentioned include standard blowing and nucleating agents, colouring agents, oil-soluble dyestuffs being preferred, and anti-static agents. Six examples are given and describe the production of tapes or ribbons ranging in width from “ inch - ¥ inch and in thickness from 0.004 inch - 0.020 inch. |
