Sensors (12,14) are attached to each of the staff (A,B,C) working in the vicinity of the safe, for measuring the pulse rate and/or the skin electrical conductivity. The measured values provided by the sensors (12,14) are fed to an evaluation stage (18) for comparison with reference criteria to provide automatic locking of the safe (26,26') when the monitored physical parameters indicate an abnormal occurrence, e.g. an attempted raid. The safe (26,26') remains in the locked state for a timed interval provided by a timer (32). ADVANTAGE - Improved security by fast response time.
