The invention relates to a device for levelling correction designed to alter the setting of a levelling sensor equipping a public works machine intended for preparing or renovating roadways. This device comprises means (2) for measuring the linear displacement of the machine, designed to deliver signals representative of the distance covered by the said machine, displacement means (3-7) associated with the levelling sensor and arranged to allow alteration of the setting of the said sensor, and a central (processing) unit (8) arranged to receive the signals representative of the distance covered by the machine, and programmed to continuously deliver control signals to the displacement means (3-7), starting from the said measurement signals and correction values representative of the predetermined setting of the levelling sensor for obtaining the corrected profile. <IMAGE>
