The invention relates to a system for changing a cylindrical element rotationally mounted in bearings housed in a protective casing fixed to a support structure. It is a system in which the casing (2) is designed to cover the cylindrical element (1) and is open downwards for insertion of this element into the casing, the latter comprising side walls forming flanges (14), which are each provided with a recess for accommodating a bearing. The system is characterised in that each end (11) of the shaft of the cylindrical element (1) has an axial orifice, in that a bearing (33) is formed by a separate member comprising a shaft (34) capable of being fitted through one of the axial orifices and rotationally mounted in a body by which the bearing is engaged in the corresponding accommodating recess, and in that means (23) are provided for blocking the bearings (33) in their support position for the cylindrical element (1) in the casing (2). The invention can be used for roadsweepers mounted on a support structure of a vehicle. <IMAGE>
