The braking device for bicycles or similar vehicles, is noteworthy in that it comprises a handle (P) mounted so that it can rotate freely at each of the ends of the handlebar (G), each of the said handles (P) exhibiting means for fastening the brake cable (C), the said means being capable of providing, under an effect of rotating the handle (P), a tensile load on the cable (C) corresponding to the braking action. <IMAGE>
