1,131,426. Launders for molten metal. MORGAN REFRACTORIES Ltd. 25 March, 1966 [26 March, 1965], No. 12962/65. Heading F4B. [Also in Divisions D1 and F2] A heat-insulating layer of felted or matted fibres is stiffened by applying a silica sol to one surface of the layer in such a manner that the sol does not penetrate to the other surface, and then drying. The fibres are of a mineral or mineral mixture containing alumina and silica. The sol may be applied by brushing, dipping or spraying. Where a shaped article is required, the felted or matted layer may be shaped before the silica sol is applied to it. In one embodiment a treated layer of ceramic fibres is used to line a launder for molten metal, and is placed with the stiffened surface in contact with the metal. |
