The piston ring abutting edges are deburred by a lapping tool, engaging the ring abutment and a swivelling ring holder prevents the rings adjustably in the tool. The lapping tool is an axially oscillating, powered lapping bar (7), whose trapezoidal cross section tapers towards the centre of the work and whose lateral lapping surfaces (13,14) are at such an angle as to extend parallel to the work flank edges on deburring engagement. USE/ADVANTAGE - For stacked piston rings etc. with reduced tool wear, and ring protection against damage.
