<p>In a machine for the formation of tubing that is helically wound from a metal strip, there is provided a generally cylindrical former (10) about which the metal strip is bent to form corners of tubing of non-circular cross-section. A clamping means (27) is provided for clamping the metal strip firmly against the former (10) during bending thereof. The clamping means (27) is supported from a rotary mounting (16) coaxial with the former (10) and the arrangement is such that both the former (10) and the clamping means (27) can undergo both rotary and axial translatory motion to follow the movement of the metal strip during winding.</p> |
