<p>An image display device has an image display surface in which many light-scattering layers formed at the ends of optical fibers are dispersed like dots, the light-scattering layers being composed of a transparent resin which contains light-scattering granular material or which has fine ruggedness on the surface thereof. According to the method of producing the image display device of the invention, ends of many optical fibers are arranged on the image display surface which is then coated with a photosensitive resin, the resin around the ends of the optical fibers on the image display surface is cured by the light from the incident plane to form light-scattering layers, and then the uncured portions are removed. In the image display device thus obtained, the image transmitted through many optical fibers is displayed via many light-scattering layers, offering broad angle of view. Further, a dark color is used for the background to limit the reflection of disturbing light from the portions other than the light-scattering layers, and a vivid image is displayed maintaining high contrast.</p> |
