PURPOSE:To find deterioration in the number of gradations in its early stage by printing a color wedge pattern on a recording body in a desired color according to a gradation number confirmation indication and confirming the number of gradations. CONSTITUTION:In normal printing operation, a multiplexer 205 selects a page memory 202 and print data of the respective colors which are stored in a page memory 202 from a host through a data input interface part 201 are outputted to the driver for print heads 102 of the respective colors through a multiplexer 205, thereby performing color printing. When the gradation number confirmation indication is made, on the other hand, an MPU 206 switches the multiplexer 205 to a ROM 200 and instructs a read control part 204 to read the ROM 200. Consequently, the color wedge data are outputted to the driver for the print heads 102 of the respective colors through the multiplexer 205, so that the color wedge pattern is printed in the colors. A service engineer confirms the printed color wedge pattern visually to detect the deterioration in the number of gradations. |
