<p>A paper tail ripper (10) having a pair of rotatably mounted knives (12, 14), air motors (26, 28) which counter-rotate the knives (12, 14), and a deflector (60) which deflects paper tail (100) toward the knives. The knives traverse closely spaced overlapping circles as they counter-rotate. Deflector (60) sweeps paper tail (100) onto tansfer mechanism (30), which transfers paper tail (100) away from ripper (10), so that tail (100) may be threaded through a calender stack, etc. Ripper (10) is pivotally mounted on transfer mechanism (30) for movement between storage and operating positions.</p> |
