A box trap consists of a box with shutters at either end to close the box. The shutters are held open by a long bolt (4) connected to a release mechanism inside the box. The bolt (4) is fixed in the open position of the shutters by a locking mechanism (6) which is mounted on a traverse (8) running at right angles to the long axis of the box. The locking mechanism (6) includes a release lever (11) for the bolt (4), connected to a swinging lever (10) which can be locked in position by a stop lever (12).
